The story began in 1994, when veterinarian Denis Heitz discovered problems with removing ticks from his patients and decided to find a simple and convenient solution. Today, most of the scientific community and authors still recommend using tweezers, but with fine tips, to grab the tick very close to its front (incorrectly called the "head") without squeezing its abdomen.
We rarely encounter fully engorged mites (~10 mm long). Most often the ticks we encounter are very small (less than 2mm). Tweezers, which could touch only the “head” of such a tick, without touching its abdomen, should have ultra-thin tips, less than 0.5 mm wide. In comparison, needle needles used in medicine range from 0.5 to 1.2 mm in width, making 0.5 mm the same diameter as the finest needles!
Consequently, these tweezers would be very thin and sharp, which could be a risk for the average user, especially children who do not always remain calm when removing a tick. These products would be restricted for medical use.
In fact, these "fine-tipped tweezers" are abstract and do not exist on the market. Therefore, proper tick removal with “fine-tipped tweezers” is a myth.
